If you’re new to the world of backyard pools, you may think that pool vacuums come with a vacuum head and that’s it. However, there are a number of different vacuum heads you can get, and you can choose based on the specific needs of your pool. Here are a few examples of the types of pool vacuum heads that are available.
Flexible vacuum heads conform to curved parts of your pool as you vacuum, so you can get every last bit of debris out. It comes in both domestic and commercial grade, so you can choose depending on the size of your pool and the strength of vacuum you have or need. Commercial vacuum heads will cost more than non-commercial ones, and vacuum heads can cost any where from around $50 to over $1,000!
Some commercial vacuum heads come with features like non-marking wheels that are adjustable, and attachable brushes for really getting at the stuff stuck on the bottom or sides. Some vacuum heads are made to be completely flexible so that they conform to every pool contour. There are also pool vacuum heads that have wheels that swivel, so you can change directions on a dime. You can also get leaf trap attachments that are made to be used with suction-side vacuum heads and which can trap a lot of debris, making vacuuming your pool less time consuming.
You should choose a pool vacuum head that matches the type of pool you have, whether concrete or vinyl. The vacuum heads for vinyl pools are made to hug the bottom of the pool without damaging the vinyl. Vacuum heads for concrete pools are not designed to be used on vinyl pools and could well damage them.
A triangular pool vacuum head with angled brushes on the bottom make it easy to get stubborn debris out of corners where it likes to collect. Many of these can be used on either vinyl or fiberglass pools.
