The Wizard of Oz has been one of the most popular children’s movies of all time. As a result, there are many, many Wizard of Oz toys available for little fans of the movies to role play, dress up and play games based on the characters and concepts depicted in the movie. Here are just a few of the choices available for creative play time in the Land of Oz. Wizard of Oz toys have been a popular favourite for the past twenty years and this is set to continue.
1. Wizard of Oz ““ Barbie Dolls
Mattel offers lots of fun to children who love Wizard of Oz toys. Everyone knows that Barbie dolls become collector’s items and the Wizard of Oz series of Barbie and Ken dolls is certain to become more valuable as your child grows up but are tons of fun for them to play with for years and years. The Dorothy Barbie is whimsical and looks just like Dorothy Gale from the movie. The doll plays a portion of the theme song by Judy Garland, Somewhere over the Rainbow. She cannot stand alone but Barbie stands can be purchased separately. Other Barbie and Ken figures available from Mattel are the Wicked Witch, Tin Man Ken, Cowardly Lion Ken, Scarecrow Ken, Glinda the Good Witch Barbie, Winkie Guard Ken which comes complete with a winged monkey. Some of the Barbie and Ken figures come with accessories and other accessories can be purchased separately.
2. Madame Alexander Wizard of Oz doll figures
In 2008, 12 different Madame Alexander Wizard of Oz doll figures were given by McDonald’s fast food restaurant in Happy Meals. If your child didn’t collect them, they are available in sealed, mint condition sets which include Dorothy, her dog Toto, the Good Witch, the Winged Monkey, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Wicked Witch, Flower Munchkin, Lullaby Munchkin, Lollipop Munchkin and the Wizard himself. This is a wonderful collection for children to engage in creative play as they recreate scenes from the movie or make up their own.
3. Wizard of Oz Munchkin Dolls
The Wizard of Oz Munchkin Kelly and Tommy Dolls by Mattel are great Wizard of Oz toys. These dolls are musical. The rest of the musical Wizard of Oz toy dolls are available separately so you can build a complete set for your child or give them as gifts.
4. Wizard of Oz version of the game of Life
USAopoly offers the Wizard of Oz version of the game of Life. The Life game allows players to move along the famous Yellow Brick Road to find a heart, brain, courage and home. This game is not for children under three because some of the playing pieces are small and could be a choking hazard. Ruby slippers act as playing pieces as players spin the Wizard of Oz logo Life Spinner to move through Auntie Em’s Farmhouse, Mushroom Huts, Scarecrow’s Cornfield, Emerald City, the Wicked Witch’s Castle and the Wizard’s Hall. Also available is a Monopoly game customized as a Wizard of Oz toy version.
