Imaginext Dinosaur
Read our Imaginext Dino Review:
When my young son called Fox saw this toy at a Target store one morning, he started hitting the large orange button on the plastic case. He kept at it until he was sure that I was going to buy the Dinosaur box and bring it with me.
This toy has provided us with a lot of quality time together. Its simplicity means that Fox can use it without much difficulty. His every morning now begins with a “Rooooaaaarrrr!!!” as he springs off the bed and heads straight for his Dino. He immediately strikes the activation button on the back to wake the Dino up, which yawns loudly in response.
Several family members and friends were quite surprised with the frequent “roars” of my son. They could not understand that he was playing “Dino”. They were even more surprised when I explained that I had bought the new Imaginext Dinosaur toy from target, especially since it was only a few days since the toy was out and the price was a whopping $169.99. The rice has now dropped to $129.99 almost everywhere including Amazon.
Spike the Dino gives out certain throaty sounds such as “moose meat” when it sniffs around the ground (which I am hoping is not a phrase that my son will pick up!). It also swaggers like dinosaurs do, booming on every step.
There is also a button that starts the “Jungle Music”. My son simply adores dancing to this tune, as I am sure every child would.
The main sounds made by Dino are:
-
Laughing (Ha ha ha ha haaaaa)
-
Sneezing (Raaaa-chooo)
-
Sniffing (Sniff Sniff Sniff Sniff…)
-
Moose meat! Moose Meat! (or something like that)
-
Grunting (Urgh urgh urgh urgh)
-
Giant Roars (Two Big Rooooaaaarrrs)
-
Booms (with every step he takes)
-
Music (Optional soft drumming, calypso like)
-
Sleeping snores (zzzz-zzzzz-zzzzz)
-
"Money Grubbin’, Money Grubbin’" (or something like that)
He also does other stuff like grunts, coughs and growls. In general, it is quite funny to hear it out.
There are no real safety issues. The spikes on the back are soft and will not hurt the child while playing or lifting. The only real concern is when turning the neck around with the controller one might hit one’s head if enough care is not taken.
There is also a volume adjuster: soft or loud. The soft does not irritate and the loud is not too bad either.
This is certainly the hottest toy of the season and will be in huge demand in the coming months. Even now, the three Target stores near me (Indio, La Quinta and Palm Desert) can be seen with empty shelves where there should have been Dinos.
The battery needs to be recharged for four hours every five days, depending on the amount my boy has been playing with it. If left inactive for some time, Dino goes into a sleep mode on its own and then turns off. The remote control functions over a distance of eight feet.
This is a wonderful toy for young children. I only wish I had such toys in my day…
