Any above ground pool system needs a good pump and filter system to keep the water clean and circulating. Without a filter and pump system, an above ground pool would quickly turn into a yucky, slimy body of water that nobody would ever want to get in. It wouldn’t be sanitary either. The way pool filter pumps work is a three step process.
First, the pump takes in water through a basket-type container mounted below the water line called a skimmer. The skimmer catches large debris like leaves. The three types of filter systems, as mentioned above are those with sand, cartridges, or diatomaceous earth. Each kind has advantages and disadvantages. Sand filters are easy to maintain, while cartridges really get the tiny particles out, and diatomaceous earth filters do the best job, but filter so much stuff from the water that they can clog and slow water flow after a time.
