Little boys and girls love to imitate their moms and dads, no matter what they are doing. Of course, they take notice of what they do at home. Cooking is one of those daily chores that children find fascinating. They want to help out in the kitchen. Step 2 has taken note of this and created a line of kitchen sets that vary from popularity, price and rating.
A popular model for Step 2 is the LifeStyle Custom Kitchen. It is a sturdy kitchen weighing 35.5 pounds with dimensions of 41.25″ height, 28″ length and 14″ width. This is a current up-to-date kitchen that features a “stainless steel” appearance on the oven, microwave and refrigerator. Similar to a real kitchen, it is equipped with a sink with faucet, a stove top that emits electronic sounds, several storage drawers and cabinets and even a kitchen window! A storage rack, granite-look countertops (available in either maroon or green) and a 17-piece accessory set completes the modern kitchen. The LifeStyle Custom Kitchen must be assembled and requires batteries.
In contrast, Step 2 offers a kitchen from yesteryear. The 50s Diner has won many honours including Toy of the Year Award from Family Fun in 2008 and Best Toys winner from Parents Magazine in 2008. Retro styled, this play diner serves up an oven, grill, fryer, icebox and sink. Booth seating and retro style tabletop lend to the fun atmosphere. Sounds such as a jukebox that plays three songs from the 1950s while in the background the sound of a coffee pot and griddle pan prepare an order. Play food recalls the delicious diner food: hamburger, French fries, ice cream cones, pies and hot dogs. The accessories are everything a diner back then would have had on hand such as coffee pot, cups, silverware, sundae dishes as well as ketchup and mustard bottles. The 50s Diner requires 4 “AA” and 2 “AAA” batteries with some assembly involved.
