SpongeBob Squarepants became very successful after its season television station Nickelodeon. Kids clamored for more of the show which prompted the creators to offer DVDs. Parents complied and ran out and bought the DVDs. The demand for SpongeBob Squarepants does not seem to be slacking. That is because SpongeBob is lovable, mischievous and is sometimes a trouble maker. Kids and parents can relate to that. The feeling that I am going to try my best, but sometimes I will make a fool out of myself and that’s ok is a major theme with SpongeBob Squarepants. SpongeBob allows us to laugh at his antics and remember our own.
1. The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie (2004)
SpongeBob and his underwater friends had made it big time when they jumped from the television screen to the movie screen. This movie features Tom Kenny (the voice of SpongeBob Squarepants, Alec Baldwin and Clancy Brown. The run time for this animated movie is 87 minutes which is suitable for the attention span of most children under 10 years old. As always, there are spectacles that only can happen to SpongeBob and his friends. A memorable scene is having a pink starfish parasail over a crowd while deftly holding a congratulatory pennant with his butt cheeks. This is a laugh-out-loud film that is goofy and endearing. The whole family will enjoy spending some time with SpongeBob.
2. SpongeBob Squarepants Truth or Square (2009)
SpongeBob continues to be good for a laugh and he proves that in his latest release. With a running time of 108 minutes, this animated film tells the story of how SpongeBob was entrusted with Mr. Krabs famous recipe (think of Colonel Sanders!) for Krabby Patty. Of course, our maligned friend loses the recipe and is distraught. The power of friendship is soon realized when SpongeBob’s friends come to his aid. Using a memory machine, the gang is able to successfully find the Krabby Patty recipe. A happy ending with a lesson about friendship ““ what else can you ask for?
3. SpongeBob Squarepants ““ Sponge Buddies/Nautical Nonsense (2002)
If you are looking for a classic from the SpongeBob Squarepants library, this is definitely one to check out. The adventures range from bad breath to time travel. Especially funny is when SpongeBob splits his pants while attempting to lift a marshmallow during a weight lifting competition! The humor is geared toward 4 year to 10 years old. Sometimes we all need just goofy jokes and some pants-splitting.
4. SpongeBob Squarepants ““ The Complete 1st Season (1999)
Go back to the beginning of SpongeBob Squarepants and see how far he has evolved. Okay, he really hasn’t changed much! All 20 episodes plus bonus features such as cast recollections and karaoke is hilarious. Remember the first season with shows such as SpongeBob being selected as Hall Monitor or his unique talent of bubble blowing! The three disc set is a collector’s item. It is fun to pull out the old DVDs and remember what made us love SpongeBob in the first place.
