Lego Star Wars Minifigures

I’ve played with the Lego minifigures all my life. I used to take them to school with me because I just love the feel and look of that quality Lego construction and they were so small and marvelously intricate.

Well, that was back when they were first starting to bear identifiable logos. The Lego Star Wars minifigures are custom built and not many pieces are interchangeable. They come with different expressions and custom Star Wars Insignias. Many of the minifigures have their own light sabers, guns and other weapons. Some have shields and helmets specific to the character.

There are at least 150 different Star Wars minifigures, and acquiring a complete collection requires a lot of dedication. You either buy all the different sets that include the minifigures, or convince someone to trade or sell off their minifigures.

Some of the Star Wars minifigures also have very intricate modeling of the various body parts. The beige Droid minifigures have hollow body pieces, thin legs and fat feet. Classic figures still sport the interchangeable arms, hands, legs and feet. You can pop the heads off and change or add hair, glasses, and numerous helmets, and then you can put the head on a different minifigure altogether.

There have been many stop motion films made with Legos, including remakes of the Star Wars films in their entirety. This is facilitated by the minifigures’ vast range of possible positions and the fact that they stay in the same place when you attached their feet to a Lego field or building.

In the end the attraction of the minifigures lies in the classic Lego appeal of custom, yet interchangeable pieces. Over the years, Lego has started to make extremely specific pieces that require a lot of imagination to combine in aesthetically pleasing ways. The minifigures lessen the complexity by having only a relatively few anthropomorphic and completely interchangeable pieces while multiplying the customization of each particular piece exponentially.
