The Leap Frog Tag reading system is a fun way to make children read out words. It helps children associate images to their corresponding words. This is a vital step in the understanding and practice of language. The tag reading system makes an otherwise arduous task seem simple and enjoyable.
Our Leap Frog Tag Reading system review:
We gave a Tag reading system to our baby girl for Christmas. Our older children have had the earlier version (with a cartridge for each book) and we had decided to repeat the experience, given the extent they had enjoyed the game. I have to say, the new game is much improved compared to the early generations.
The hardware is a big pen-like Tag to which we upload the software from the LeapFrog website. This is then used to scan the books that Leap Frog provides with the hardware. The Tag is then able to make the sounds that correspond to a particular graphic in the book. It is also able to read entire pages. The Tag’s games include stimulating the child by asking specific questions that requires him to direct the pen at specific images. Another activity has the Tag read out the entire story in the book. The Tag system includes the Tag, a USB wire, one small book that has been pre-installed on the Tag, and a program CD. Batteries (2 AAs) are not given in the package. If you wish you can buy other books or have versions that do not include books.
My little child likes playing with the Tag but not alone. She needs our support to get things done right. Nevertheless, when the game starts, she is happy when she can make the sounds appropriately. She often checks with the Tag to see whether she was right or not.
The Leap Frog Connect Website plays a central role in enabling you to make the most of the product. Parents can obtain content to supplement the books they have bought for the Tag. Interesting tips and articles on issues such as child education are available. The site also helps parent keep a record of their children’s progress. Of course, in counterpart, the parents are subject to exposure to Leap Frog marketing.
Below I have given my appreciation of the Tag (pluses indicate a positive evaluation while minuses refer to a negative evaluation).
+ The pen-like design is fun to use.
+ The books and content are interesting for the children, providing long hours of play.
+ New books can be easily added to the Tag by downloading them from the website.
–The Tag has a very limited memory space, barely enough to contain 5 books. Thus, if you have more than 5, you need to delete some before being able to read the surplus. If your child wants to go back to an earlier book, then you may find yourself re-loading books all the time. Leap Frog should consider improving this since a Gigabyte costs less than a few dollars. A Gigabyte easily holds a vast quantity of books.
