When you think of children’s tables, what comes to mind? There are so many uses of tables besides eating dinner at. There are two basic classifications of tables: functional and specialized.
Functional tables are tables that can be used for a multitude of tasks. This can be true of any table. A standard children’s table is made of plastic for easy clean-up. The normal activities at this table would be eating and creating beautiful artwork that will be displayed on your refrigerator at a later date. Another type of functional table is a child’s desk. It is the place to do homework or to study for the test tomorrow. It has been found that a child is more likely to do their homework if there is a designated place for that purpose. A desk that has compartments or drawers will help to keep the student organized.

There are also specialized tables that are used for a specific purpose. Included in this category are art tables that have storage space for a roll of artist paper or tables that are great for storage of a multitude of art supplies. Another great example of a specialized table is a railroad table. A child’s imagination at this table will be on track! Railroad cars, engines, tracks, signal crossing switches along with sprawling landscape will come alive on a railroad table. Other tables may have the map of the United States or the world displayed and identified. Children can eat a sandwich and learn where Portugal or Italy is at the same time. They can learn the location of seas and which countries make up the continent of Africa.
There is nothing ordinary about children’s tables.
