Inflatable slides are a huge hit at birthday parties, corporate events, church gatherings, and carnivals. The really big inflatable slides can be rented, sometimes alone, and sometimes as part of an event package. With rental slides, typically the rental company sends technicians right to site of the event to set up the inflatable slide. Then when the event is over, they deflate it and take it away.
However, there are smaller inflatable slides that can be purchased for home use. While these won’t bear the same weight loads as the larger slides, they can be a good active play apparatus for young children. Often inflatable slides are part of a larger toy, like a bounce house. Sometimes, particularly with inflatable water slides, inflatable slides stand alone. Inflatable water slides almost always come with a blower to keep them as full of air as possible to provide the necessary support. At the top there will be a connector for a standard garden hose, which keeps the slide surface wet and cool.
The large inflatable slides that are usually rented as part of a party package are available to buy as well, but they are probably too big to go into the average backyard and have any space left over for anything else. For example, an 18 foot high outdoor inflatable slide with two side-by-side lanes costs about $2,000.
Besides these simple inflatable slides, there are inflatable slides that are made to look like everything from a hungry shark to a sabre tooth tiger, where you exit by sliding between the two giant fangs. Keep in mind that some of these novelty slides may look frightening to children who are very young.
For the backyard, perhaps the best choice is a simple bounce house/inflatable slide like the Little Tikes Shady Jump N Slide, which is recommended for ages 3 to 10 and costs about $250.00.
