Batman is the favorite hero of both the older adults as well as youngsters who have enjoyed the Batman Begins version. Kids adore the various gimmicks that are associated with the legendary dark knight such as the Bat Mobile or the Bat Cycle. Favorites also include the Bat glider or the Bat symbol. Imaginext brings the characters of Batman to life. In vivid, miniaturized detail every character displays its own set of weapons and actions. Certain important places like the Wayne Manor or the Bat Cave are also vividly depicted. These stimulate the imagination of kids who can replay the scenes of their favorite characters in these fantastic locations. The actionable components encourage the kids to interact with the toy providing hours of entertainment. The villains too are present, even though they are only there to get a good thrashing from the Dark Knight and Robin! Villains like Two Face, the Catwoman and the Joker have their own figures and gimmicks and are very detailed. It is quite fun for kids to replay the epic battles between the heroes and their equally legendary nemeses. Of course, it is with great satisfaction that the heroes emerge victorious! Imaginext brings Batman to life.
Review: Fisher-Price Imaginext Batcave
Having been a Batman fan since childhood, I was very much thrilled to offer this playset to my two young sons. The feel on opening the playset was similar to the old Mego comic action heroes that I used to have when I was a kid. The set consists of black and grey batman, Robin, bat-computer, Robin’s staff/hook weapon and 2 batarangs. I really enjoyed the batcave which had a lot of features such as:
-
The elevator which halts on every floor and reaches the roof as a hatch opens.
-
Iris shaped window that opens and closes.
-
A platform with missile launcher that is brought into view by sliding out a rock panel.
-
A front entrance door that opens and closes.
-
Side hatch for the Batcycle as well as access ramp.
-
A prison cell to contain the villains.
-
Winch and hook.
-
Side stairs and opening on the second floor.
-
A large Bat-symbol that is centrally placed.
-
Windows.
-
Ladders
-
Staircases
Other details like control panels and beds can be seen on the walls of the Bat Cave. The only disadvantage that was visible was that Robin’s cape was missing. Otherwise, all the other Bat costumes had capes made of cloth.
I also ended up buying the Bat Mobile for $10. It opening cockpit and rotating turbo flame is really fun. By pressing a button, the grille jumps out and becomes a capture claw to catch the villains. The best thing is that the Batman is sitting at the wheel.
I bought some other figures like the Joker and his Joker cycle, which releases a hammer to whack the ground when a button is pressed. I also had the Penguin with his revolving umbrella copter and two penguin henchmen (which have rollers on their belly so that they roll about as penguins would slide on ice). Last but not least, I bought the blue and grey Batman armed with a Bat glider and bat grapple. The nicest feature of this one is that it has a lifter that pulls the grapple back. Thus it causes Batman to climb over anything that the grapple is attached to. These figures were really cheap, about $5.99 each.
My children and I had hours of entertainment with these. They are still fond of them, even though it has been many weeks since we had them. It’s certainly one of the best toys of the year. I actually would need a set for myself very soon…
