Fisher Price Aquarium

A baby’s environment plays a role in his or her ability to calm himself and sleep soundly. Some experts believe that sleep problems can be worked through if babies learn the skill of self-soothing. For bedtime or naptime, it is a good idea to darken the room, perhaps add white noise from a fan or air purifier. It’s a good idea to remove from the crib loud or stimulating toys.

The Fisher Price Ocean Wonder Aquarium is what is called an “infant soother.” It attaches to a crib and uses lights and sounds to help your baby calm down and get to sleep when it’s naptime or bedtime. It plays one of five classical songs, or one of three sound effects including ocean waves and rain, as bubbles float up to the top of the aquarium. It has up to 18 minutes of continuous music, and three modes: sounds and lights with water motion; sounds and lights; or sounds only.

The Mommy Fish appears to swim through the water, with her baby following closely behind. Meanwhile a crab plays peek-a-boo in the coral, and seaweed sways in the waves. The wraparound design provides a complete view of the aquarium. Underneath the peaceful scene is a soft light. It attaches with straps to most standard cribs and is a great tool for helping infants to learn to calm themselves. It uses 4 D batteries, but parents report that the Fisher Price Ocean Wonder Aquarium is not a “battery eater” as so many electronic infant toys are.

It sells for $49, and is made with Fisher Price’s customary toughness. Parents say that this product outlasts one child and still works great to pass along to younger siblings. The Fisher Price Ocean Wonder Aquarium is a welcome addition to any nursery.
