As far as racist dolls go, number eleven’s not bad. The extreme color contrast aside, it’s a very realistic negroid doll and actually quite cute. I find number twelve much more racist.

There is nothing even slightly racist about number 11. As Doctor Allen points out it’s a very realistic negroid doll. Sure, the lips are a bit red, but that is just poor design. Golliwogs, with their “black-and-white-minstrel” paint, are offensive if you know what they are supposed to portray, but normal dolls SHOULD come in all colours, with all sorts of different racial features, just like people do. Racist would be having all white dolls.
As for terrifying, only eight of them are even in the running, and most of those are gruesome or disturbing, rather than terrifying. What would you make of a Toddlerpede by Jon Beinart? Actually, most of those are pretty cute too, unless you have any sort of insect phobia.

Funny how none of the ‘white’ dolls is considered racist, but the black one is? Just because it’s black?

The ‘negro’ doll (#11) seems anatomically perfect for a black child. The only objectionable thing imo is the term ‘negro’. Which is not that objectionable since it will be appearing as an option on the 2010 US Census for racial classification (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negro).

As for the comment re: #12 being more racist – if it was a white monster would it still be considered racist?

The only monster here is political correctness… :)
