12 Swimming Pools Worthy of Your Admiration

by admin on June 24, 2009

We love swimming pools at the thetoyzone.com so we put together a list of our favourites:

1. Ledge Pool

Hanging-Pool

At 10 floors up, this hanging pool in Texas gives swimmers a dazzling view. The pool has an overhang of 8 feet directly above Dallas main street.

2.  Baghdad Pool

baghadad-swimming-pool

Local Iraqi’s didn’t let the the small matter of a war stop them taking a dip. However I do worry a little about where that soldier is pointing his gun.

3. Worlds Deepest Pool

Deepest-Pool

At 33 meters deep this is the worlds deepest manmade pool. The Nemo tank in Belgium is loved by scuba divers around the world.

4. Derelict (Radioactive) Pool

abandoned-pool

So you won’t find this at your nearest Hilton but this place is still really cool. This place would be great to host an illegal rave or even just some skating.

EDIT: Thanks to Nick for pointing out that this pool is actually in Chernobyl.

Nick: You do realise that pool is at Pripyat, a city in Ukraine that is abandoned due to it’s proximity to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster?
Don’t think many people would fancy a rave or some skating at the risk of radiation poisoning!

5. The Mayan Temple Pool

Atlantis-aztec-slide

The Mayan Temple slide shoots you vertically through a shark tank. Thankfully the “leap of faith” is protected by flexi glass.

Recently one shark had its own leap of faith when it jumped the 1ft high barrier onto the slide itself. Whilst the shark survived the drop it sadly died in the chlorinated pool below.

6. Auckland Hilton Hotel

This unique pool has an underwater viewing window that offers breathtaking views of the harbour.

Peeping toms armed with a telephoto lens are in with a chance of catching a sight of bikini clad bathers.

7. Infinity Pool

Infinity pools are designed in such a way that it looks like the pool stretches on forever. This amazing example of such a pool is at the Bulgari Resort in Bali.

8. Worlds Largest Swimming Pool

Try holding your breath and swimming a length of this pool!

This mammoth of a pool is over 1,000 yards long and most people get around of small boats. With 60 million gallons of water, I wonder if its ok to take a piss in it?

9. Pool in your garage

pool-in-my-garage

Most of us can’t afford a $30 million infinity pool in our backyard but a guy named Paul didn’t let this put him off having a pool. Paul decided to convert his garage into a pool – DIY style. Using parts ordered off the internet, Paul managed to fit a pool where he used to park his Honda.

10.Golden Nugget Casino Pool

In true Vegas opulence this $30 million pool complex has a water slide passing through a shark infested tank.

11. Devils Swimming Pool

Devil's-Swimming-pool

Each year the dry season allows the creation of mothers natures ultimate infinity pool. At any other time of the year, swimmers would be swept away to their deaths!

Low water levels reveal a rock wall that allows dare devil bathers the ability to swim just feet away from Victoria falls crashing into neighbouring Zimbabwe.

12. Mega packed Pool

The job of the lifeguard must be insane at this pool in the Chinese province of Sichuan.

May I also point out, because it clearly hasn’t been already, that number four is a picture of a pool near Chernobyl. Imagine, having a rave while getting radiation poisoning and playing call of duty. Wowzers.

Janice Hanlon June 26, 2009 at 3:36 am

Why are all the Chinese people wearing rubber rings? Can none of them swim??

Janie June 26, 2009 at 3:39 am

Absolutely love how people don’t bother to read what other people write and just repeat the same thing over and over again…. of the 8 previous comments, 5 of them are about the derelict pool…why?

Bob June 26, 2009 at 4:44 am

LMAO at Mr T

hg June 26, 2009 at 4:57 am

Are you kidding me? There’s no lifeguard in that last pool.

Geoff June 26, 2009 at 6:24 am

#12 Gross.

btron June 26, 2009 at 7:51 am

number 12 looks urinetastic!

matt June 26, 2009 at 8:40 am

Actually the Russian pool shown abandon would only cause one problem for swimmers… the fact that it is lacking water. Ravers and Skaters would be fine, the radiation from the nuclear meltdown has dissipated enough to not cause problems and in fact the small trace amounts of radiation that may be found by a geiger counter have a greater chance of improving your health much like a sun tan.

Jon June 26, 2009 at 8:54 am

#11 – So what happens when a fat person jumps in at frame right, creating a huge wave surge while this guy is dangling at the edge of the falls?

Sun June 26, 2009 at 10:27 am

To Janie…Most people do not have (or take) the time to acknowledge the opinions of others. The only thing that matters is THEIR opinion. Welcome to the Children of the Human Race.

Bob Kill June 26, 2009 at 11:50 am

Wow pool #4 is so creepy. Anybody know more about it?

Anonymous June 26, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Hey, the derelict pool is in Chernobyl. Don’t think anyone mentioned it yet.

Dude June 26, 2009 at 5:04 pm

That is the pool that is in the Game COD 4…

Jim F June 26, 2009 at 5:11 pm

I think picture 4 is in usa somewhere…

seano2101 June 26, 2009 at 5:44 pm

I have been on The Mayan Temple Pool at Atlantis. It is kinda a let down because you are going so fast that you dont get to really see the sharks.

urtipikal June 26, 2009 at 7:31 pm

I’m a fucking moron who doesn’t learn anything unless someone puts it in a game, but isn’t that a radioactive pool found in the abandoned town of Pripyat?

matt June 26, 2009 at 8:10 pm

i’m betting somebody pee’d in number twelve

TootieLizardTush June 26, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Why are all the Chinese people wearing rubber rings? Can none of them swim??

Obviously for the bumper car appeal:)

Dazzababes June 26, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Picture 4 was actually taken by me two years ago. Not “some dude on a bike”, or Elana – “kid of speed”.
The area is quite safe (I had a geiger counter), and although the Chernobyl accident actually happened in 1986, the power plant remained functional until 2001 and the workers continued to use the pool until around 1991.

Brodie June 26, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Josh… Are you a fucking moron? Did you read the blog? Because he mentions that a commentator named Nick already pointed that out… A day earlier if you review previous comments.

sianz June 26, 2009 at 10:29 pm

i believe the most crowded pool is the wave pool in Japan, where there is a synthetic wave generator that sweeps through the entire pool every few minutes,

And janice, open your racist eyes and look at the photo carefully, those with rings are mostly women and young children.

Dementid June 27, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Hey, there’s this pool in Pripyat, Ukraine. Apparently it was affected by the whole Chernobyl thing. Surprised it didn’t make this list, looking like a great rave scene and all.

Seriously?? June 27, 2009 at 8:25 pm

OMGROTFLMAO!!!!!!! You people ROCK! Yeah, I said YOU people.

Chris Ronk June 27, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Based on that last one; I guess Asian’s don’t believe in personal space.

reid June 27, 2009 at 10:19 pm

wow the pool Derelict (Radioactive) Pool is actually used in the game call of duty 4

Shoa June 27, 2009 at 11:13 pm

hahahahahaha are you kidding me? try reading two comments up and every one before that:
“BOb June 25, 2009 at 3:24 pm

I can’t believe no one has mentioned this yet!! Did you know that picture # 4 is actually a pool near Chernobly!!! Good luck having a rave there!!!!!!! I should know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Joe June 27, 2009 at 11:32 pm

I think the rings in the pool in China are for the personal space more than flotation. By using the rings the people are able to extract an extra 18″ of proximity from their hyper-crowded lives.

Ned Plimpton June 28, 2009 at 12:38 am

To the proprietor of the worlds largest swimming pool, It looks to me as if the worlds largest body of water is right next to you… why not take a swim in that instead of dumping millions into a giant pit of constant up-keep. Fucking capitalism.

dannielle1123 June 28, 2009 at 1:23 am

I find it very sad that the only reason i recognized #4 was because of Call of Duty 4 =p

pirate pete June 28, 2009 at 2:21 am

Pool’s closed.

robb June 28, 2009 at 3:18 am

loved the last pool.
u cant even swim there.
it’s just for u to dip ur toes.

Morgan June 28, 2009 at 3:33 am

Considering that they have police/guards around Prypiat, and they’ll let you in to look around (assuming you’ve filled out some paperwork, which allegedly isn’t too tough to manage), I can’t imagine anyone’s going to get radiation poisoning from visiting that pool. I also can’t really see anyone getting away with a rave, but that’s for three reasons. First, it’s an abandoned city, there hasn’t been power to that building in decades, most likely. Second, raves suck. They play the most irritating, derivative form of techno ever made. Third, the city’s surrounded by police and guards. I can’t imagine that the Ukrainian government would really approve a dance event there, and I’m pretty sure that cops might just notice that noise, and all the drugged out Ukrainians suddenly descending on the town.

Then again, I can see someone on acid there,”Dude, you can…like… see the radiation. It’s totally in synch with the music.”

Alexander June 28, 2009 at 4:48 am

i’ve been in the nemo pool :D

Imajica June 28, 2009 at 6:27 am

Very interesting pools. I liked the one in the garage. Thanks for sharing.

DarkSock June 28, 2009 at 12:23 pm

tman June 28, 2009 at 3:31 pm

the rave won’t need glow sticks, everyone will be glowing.
where is the largest pool? #8 and pool # 11 would definitely be full of piss, scared out of everyone

Rasputin June 28, 2009 at 6:06 pm

Hey Moderators don’t delete this. It is the true story of Picture #4. Copy & paste t an online translator if you don’t belive me!

Номер 4 была снимок, делаемый объединения рядом Chernobyl, из которого некоторый пижон делал снимок, при путешествовать через область на его велосипеде. Это было также искренне обновлено, с ближайшим пейзажем в Служебном долгу игры 4.

LOL

SiriS June 28, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Number 2 is probably the worst photoshop I’ve seen since… ever.

roi_ratt June 28, 2009 at 9:56 pm

Sabra – MARRY ME! Any chick who knows her way around guns like that and has that kind of common sense is the one for me!

This June 28, 2009 at 11:33 pm

Uhh, the pool above Dallas is not even remotely as badass as the pool at the cour d’Alene resort in Idaho.

15 stories up, overhanging, glass bottom.

amazongirl June 29, 2009 at 12:41 am

isn’t that the swimming pool in COD 4? It would be awesome to throw a rave in there

Casey June 29, 2009 at 1:56 am

I really want to go to that Shark Slide one sometime!!!

Pie June 29, 2009 at 4:14 am

Apart from #4 being in Pripyat and in the shadow of Chernobyl… How on earth would any one skate in a pool without curves? If you look into the corners everything is right angles(ish). In order to skate a pool you need to have a bowl shaped pool… ie smooth transition between the walls and the bottom.

Colin June 29, 2009 at 5:21 am

Its great!! I see #4 and immediatly think ‘Headshot’ LOLz I spend too much ttime on the PC!!

Sweeet June 29, 2009 at 10:45 am

After reading/viewing this pics I really want to play COD4 and pop Zakahev, and I completely forgot what this page was about.

Cpt. O. June 29, 2009 at 11:16 am

Did you know #4 is actually in Chernobyl?

impulse June 29, 2009 at 12:12 pm

And how about this one. It is a pool, is it a sea?
