To be unique on Halloween is to be creative and use materials that are already available. The most attractive and funny costumes are those that you devise yourself. No pre-made costume will fit your personality as the one you have designed and made with your hands. Of course, you can purchase a costume readymade, but there is more satisfaction in making one, isn’t there? You can still customize purchased costumes by adding accessories of your choice. Making your own Halloween costumes is cheap and re-utilizes materials and old clothing so that you are also environmentally friendly! Here are some nice and simple, and really unique Halloween costumes for you to consider.
1. Sarah Palin Costume
The McCain’s unlucky co-runner is still a famous figure and an easy Halloween costume to pull off. The bun hairstyle, those famous, almost proprietary glasses, and a classic suit (dull colored) are all you need. Of course, do not forget the lipstick! If in a couple, the McCain-Palin duo is also a good idea.
2. The Biker
Now this is an idea to show off your “rebel” side, particularly if you are pretty “normal” the rest of the year. All you need is a bandana, temporary tattoos (unless you want real ones!), black leather jacket, black pants, matching boots, gloves, sunglasses and studded chokers. Arm yourself with sack from a Harley Davidson store as a treat bag, and you’ve got the perfect biker look.
3. Truck Driver and Road Kill
Want Halloween to pass a message too? What about the need for decreasing road accident fatalities? You can dress up as a truck driver (jeans, flannel shirt and hat) and your spouse can be the dead person (squashed brain, wheel marks and sooty clothing).
4. Scarecrow
Classic but not so much seen nowadays. Old baggy pants and shirt (holes are certainly welcome). You can glue yellow fabric that looks like straw to your sleeves and neckline as well as feet. With a hat, the look is complete. Run around with the pumpkin head of Halloween!
5. Alien and Astronaut
As a couples costume, this would be great. The Alien could have a big head with oval eyes and pale skin (some costumes are available readymade). The Astronaut would have shiny outfit with NASA written on the back and on the arms.
6. Two-headed guys or girls
This is an excellent costume for twins but can be for brother/sisters or couples as well. The only precondition is that both persons are relatively thin and have the same height. Simply have an oversized shirt, large enough to have both of you in it. Each person sticks out his/her arm on either side. Separate pants can be worn, but they should be identical. Masks would go nicely as well: the two-headed monster. Beware though: it could be a challenge to move around.
7. Farmer and Cow Outfit
Dress up as a farmer with baggy (soiled?) pants, preferably overalls and boots and large hat. You could drag a little cow on wheels made of carton or you could have a partner dress up as a cow.
