10 Loudest Toys to Buy your Distant Relative

by Emma on October 25, 2008

My father-in-law delights in buying my sons the loudest toys possible. He finds great joy in providing them with toys that they love, while creating non-stop headaches for me.

Some of these toys go on and on forever, while others are loud for only a brief moment. Be sure to figure out how to turn off the toys (or remove the batteries) before your children get a hold of them!

Bop It Extreme – by Milton Bradley

This toy is hopelessly addictive. I’ve even found myself losing all track of time while playing. The toy shouts out directives to “Bop-It”or “Spin-It” and you have to press/pull/turn the corresponding button. It’s also great in groups or in one-on-one play as it includes a “Pass It On” feature so you can challenge the next person. Thankfully, this toy comes with a headphone jack.

Neurosmith Music Blocks – by Back to Basics

These blocks provide children with an understanding of how musical composition works. Each block represents a different aspect of the music and is rearranged in the base to create new tunes. Expansion packs are available with different styles: African beats, Irish jigs and more!

Learn Through Music – by Fisher-Price

This wonderful toy is similar to a LeapPad except that it concentrates on teaching music. The cartridges include fun songs from favorites such as Sesame Street, Dora and SpongeBob Square Pants. Additional cartriges can be purchased. Children can also record their own voices as they sing along. Warning: Children will have their favorite pages, so be prepared to listen to one song over and over.

Transformers Animated Optimus Prime Battle Blaster – by Hasbro

Transforms from a truck to a blaster cannon that can be strapped to your arm. Guaranteed to be noisy with cannon blasts and several different speech sounds (“I am Optimus Prime”) when in cannon mode and with flashing lights and wailing sirens when in truck mode. It’s twice the listening fun!

Squawkin Chicken: Eaaakkkk! – by Toysmith

It looks just like an ordinary rubber chicken. However, if you give it a little squeeze it will emit an ear piercing screech. The most fun can be had by leaving this toy laying about… it’s guaranteed to startle, and no one suspects a thing!

Voice Changer Toy – by Shylling

This toy provides hours of amusement. Not only does it provide voice amplification, but it can change your voice too! There are over 10 voice modifications including monotone robot, spooky alien and high pitched squeak. It’s better than helium!

Band in a Box – by Melissa and Doug

The name says it all. There is nothing in this box that doesn’t make noise. In addition, you may want to think twice about encouraging your child to make more noise. However, I do highly recommend this toy for those families just building up their musical instrument collection. We have a great time dumping out a box of instruments, turning up the radio and playing along. We highly suggest that you warn the neighbors before doing this.

PlaySkool Busy Ball Popper – by Hasbro

The Busy Ball Popper plays three comical tunes and sound effects while the balls pop out of the tube and roll back down into the toy. Both of my sons still enjoy this toy (1yr and 3 yrs) and both can operate it easily (love the big red button!) If you think the ball popper sounds get annoying after a while, just wait until they put something down the tube that’s not supposed to be there. (And you can be assured that they will!)

Sesame Street Mini Saxophone – by Fisher-Price

My son absolutely loves this saxophone. Much to my chagrin, there is no off button for this toy. There is a dial that by all logical assumptions should be the volume, but instead it only changes the pitch and speed of the three songs. Does not come with an off button, but thankfully the songs are short.

Lightning McQueen Shake and Go Toys - by Disney Pixar Cars

Children will find the increasing pitch of the revving engine exciting, and will try to see how high and how fast it will go. Several catch phrases from the movie are also featured as Lightning McQueen dashes off to catch the checkered flag. Thankfully, this toy has an off switch as it has a habit of turning itself on in the toy box!

Everytime we go to my sister’s house, my kids play the Bop It toy. It drives me nuts! In fact, it’s gotten to a point where I have to call in advance to ask my sister to conveniently misplace the toy before we come to visit. It’s that annoying!

Thanks for such a fun list. I do have a few relatives to keep in mind. (evil laugh)

Numbering of the 10 loudest toys would make it a little easier for others to follow. I do like the list though. ;p
