What Little Tyke Furniture Should I buy this Christmas?

Little Tikes Thomas the tank engine bed frameA few weekends ago I was wondering through my local store looking for furniture for my bedroom when I saw my little boys eyes light up. He started to tug on my arm and drag me off course. I looked towards the direction he was pulling me and there before me was a little tikes Junior Thomas the Tank Ready Bed frame.

I took a greater interest, as what ever interests my kid interests me. I found a whole array of Little Tikes Table & Chairs Set, easel and large waffle things (please see picture right if that last one seemed a bit crazy). Well, I had always associated Little Tikes with toys, I mean I had always bought my kids a few of their products as they were growing up but I never really had put them together with furniture.

Well this got my excitement up, even more so than the prospect of decorating my own room. I has decorated the kids room a few times over the years but it was always just a bed with the walls painted pink for girls and blue for boys. There’s usually a toy box thrown in their somewhere and also place to store the vast army of teddies they seem to accumulate. If you have ever decorated a child’s room you probable have a pretty god idea of what I am talking about. The section in the store gave me a brilliant idea to funk up my kids room.

As it stands in my house at the moment the kids spend the majority of their time running round the house playing in the kitchen and room which is not exactly convenient or safe for them to be playing around. I thought that adding a few tikes furniture such as storage centre to their rooms would create a sanctuary for them to play in and actively use their imagination.

I’m afraid to get the “Little Engine that Could” bed for my son because I know he will outgrow the theme very quickly! I can’t imagine a boy older than 6 or 7 wanting to sleep in that blue train, as adorable as it may be. I want to try and find a bed that is a little less babyish so I don’t have to buy a new bed in 5 years. Help!

  2. A few years ago my nephew got a hot red car bed from the movie theme cars and he still loves it. He’s six now. I think if you get theme furniture you want to make sure that it represents something your child really loves so that you’ll get several years out of it. I found some really cool kid’s beds at http://www.babydirect.com/c-128-toddler-beds.aspx There’s a bulldozer bed, safari truck, red race car and beautiful princess bed. They aren’t related to any movie themes so they won’t go out of style. They’re just really cool so I thought I’d let other parents know about them.
